+ Is this insurance subject to HST?
This Insurance is not subject to HST, but is still subject to PST for Residents of Ontario.
+ Can I renew my professional liability for registered massage therapy policy over the phone?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept renewals over the phone. You have the option of renewing online, faxing/emailing or mailing us your professional liability renewal form.
+ Is Acupuncture included in the RMT professional liability policy?
Acupuncture is not automatically included as a covered modality. We require a copy of your certificate of training for acupuncture before we can provide the coverage. This change will generate an additional premium of $216.00 (taxes included) per year. Please contact our office if you wish to make this change to your professional liability policy.
+ I lost my professional liability certificate of insurance, how can I get hold of another copy?
The quickest way to obtain another copy of your professional liability certificate of insurance is to email us and one of our representatives will email you a copy. Please note that if you require a copy to be mailed to you there is a $10.00 fee that will apply.
+ I am in the process to completing my CMTO registration and don’t have my professional liability certificate of insurance in front of me. How can I get the information I need?
Please email us at rmt@lmicanada.com and one of our representatives will respond to your inquiry. Depending on the time of year, a call back may be delayed as the volume of other insured’s requiring attention may increase.
+ I am going on maternity leave. What will happen to my professional liability insurance policy?
If you are going on maternity leave for a certain period of time, please call or email us. We will request something in writing that states you wish to cancel your policy and the effective date of your professional liability cancellation. If canceling your professional liability policy before your renewal date you may be eligible for a refund.
+ I am going inactive with the CMTO and need to cancel my professional liability policy. Is there a penalty?
If you obtain an inactive certificate with the CMTO, please note that you cannot continue to hold coverage. We do not charge a cancellation penalty, but will require that you notify us of your change.
+ Will my current professional liability policy cover me if I work on a cruise ship for a few months?
Your existing professional liability policy will cover you anywhere you work in Canada however, we can issue an endorsement form, which will cover you during the time you are working on the cruise ship. This policy change will generate an additional premium. Please contact us for more details.
+ I am an RMT. How do I find out when my massage liability policy renews or
how do I get a new liability certificate?
Your policy renews the same time every
year (or six months). The renewal date is in the upper right section of
your liability certificate. If you absolutely can not find it, (we have
always made your massage certificate orange so it is easy to find) you
can email us and we will email your renewal date back to you. If you
need a copy of your liability certificate please email us and request
one. A $10,00 fee may apply. Renewal notices for RMT's (who do not
belong to the OMTA) and all other modalities are sent out approximately
30 days prior to renewal.
+ I need my
Liability Certificate of Insurance ASAP. How fast can I get it?
The fastest way to have your
application for malpractice insurance processed is to apply online at
rmtinsurance.com using a credit card for payment. You can also send it to
us by express post ($3.00) or courier ($15.00). We will process your
liability application the same day we receive it. If you include a fax
number or email address, we will send the document to you within 24
hours. New RMT's can get express service and we will process your
malpractice liability application before noon.

Can Lackner McLennan fax my Liability Insurance Certificate
directly to the CMTO?
The College of Massage Therapy ( CMTO )
will not allow us to fax certificates of Liability Insurance to them
directly. As an RMT, you must include the certificate or the information
contained on it with your CMTO application or renewal documents.

Does it matter if my liability policy is occurrence or claims
made?
YES! If your liability policy is claims
made, you have to keep paying insurance, even after you retire in the
event that you are sued. You stop paying for an occurrence policy when
you stop practicing. The Lackner McLennan Policy is an occurrence form.

Why is it so much cheaper to buy liability insurance through
LMI than everywhere else?
Lackner McLennan is the largest insurer
of massage therapists ( RMT's ) in Canada. We offer you the volume
savings that we receive from insuring so many therapists. We are not a Massage Therapy Association and we do not currently insure the OMTA. Unlike massage therapy associations, we do not charge a membership fee"

Do I need any other insurance?
Our policy includes BOTH professional liability (malpractice) and
commercial general liability with a limit of $3,000,000 each, wherever
you are working including from your home. It even provides a small limit
of $2,500 for office protection (details, click
HERE). If you require higher limits, you may wish to purchase an
office contents policy that is also available through Lackner McLennan.

Can I pay for my liability insurance by Credit Card?
Yes, you may pay by VISA or MASTERCARD.
We require the card number and expiry date.

What happens when my Credit Card expires?
If we are unable to renew your
liability policy automatically we will mail you out a standard RMT
renewal notice and you will again have the option to sign up for
automatic renewal. You may also call in your new credit card information
prior to renewal.
No. You will need a card that is good
for at least a year to take advantage of automatic renewal for RMT's.
You can renew next year and sign up at that time.
+ I am an RMT and my house insurance will not insure me when I
work out of my house. Can you insure my house?
Yes! While most homeowners policies
exclude businesses that are operated out of the home we have made
special arrangements with our insurance company to provide house
insurance for RMT's working out of their home.

What happens to my liability insurance if I move to another
province?
As a licensed massage therapist, our
policy provides liability insurance coverage CANADA-WIDE. We will even
cover you outside of Canada if you are traveling with a Canadian Sports
Team or Delegation. A number of RMT's have even arranged coverage from
us so they may travel to the Beijing Olympics.

Can I renew my Malpractice insurance for more than one year?
Lackner McLennan's RMT Liability
policy is available for a 6 month or annual policy term.

Who do I make my check payable to for my Liability Insurance?
All cheques must be payable to Lackner
McLennan Insurance.

I am an RMT who is inactive with the CMTO. Can I reactivate my liability insurance coverage online?
Yes. You can apply for a new liability
policy online anytime. We will send you a new liability certificate for
you to send to the CMTO.

Can I renew my liability policy online even if it is past due?
If your liability policy has expired
within the last 15 days you can still renew on line by going to the
late renewal page. There
will be no interruption in your Liability insurance coverage. If your
policy renewed more than 15 days ago you can still renew your massage
insurance by going to the
renew online BUT you will
have a interruption in coverage. (coverage will begin again the day
after we receive your renewal)
